Call for Abstracts for Oral & Poster Presentations

On behalf of the Organising Committee you are invited to submit an abstract for presentation at AOD 2009 Conference - Making it Happen: Responding to AOD issues across the sectors.

This Conference will take place at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle, Western Australia from 12-13 May 2009.

The Making it Happen Conference will provide numerous opportunities for professional networking and collaboration across the sectors, as well as lively discussion and debate.

Submitting an Abstract

Abstracts must be submitted online, as Microsoft Word documents only using a specific format - a sample abstract template is available online to assist you in this task. We recommend that you use this template and save your abstract before uploading.

  • Abstracts must be a minimum of 250 words, and no longer than 300 words
  • Abstracts must be submitted in Arial 11 point font
  • The presenting authors name must be underlined and all author affiliations must be included
  • The abstract title must be typed in bold font
  • Abstracts must be text only. Graphics, pictures or graphs should not be submitted

Once you have submitted your abstract online, you will receive an email containing your personal access key. This access key can be used to enter the 'Speaker Zone' where you can view or make changes to your submitted abstract.

Presentation Format

Abstracts may be submitted for the following presentation types:

  • 25 minute oral presentation (including 5 minutes question time)
  • 45 minute workshop presentation (interactive)
  • Poster display (dimensions of board 1200 mm wide x 1800 mm high)

Themes

The Organising Committee has developed a number of themes that will be addressed throughout the Conference. These include:

  • Co-morbidity
  • Corrections Courts and Diversion
  • Child Protection
  • Working with Complex Clients
  • Families & Young People
  • Working Partnerships

These themes should be addressed within the context of the Conference theme, Making it Happen: Responding to AOD issues across the sectors.

The Organising Committee also welcomes abstracts that may not fall within the set sub-themes above and more than one sub theme can be addressed.

Guidelines

All presenting authors must register and pay to attend the Conference at the discounted presenter rate. All authors must attend at least the full day of their presentation.

Submission of abstracts implies the author’s agreement to publish the abstract in all Conference publications including the web site. Successful abstracts must be presented by the author/s or a nominated co-author.

Acceptance of abstracts does not imply any payment from the Conference Committee. Authors must arrange and pay their own accommodation, travel etc. to attend the Conference.

Acceptance or otherwise is at the discretion of the Conference Program Committee whose decision is final.

All abstracts must be submitted by 5.00pm WST Friday 12 September 2008

Following a review, the outcome of your abstract will be advised by the reviewing committee in November 2008.
